En las turbulentas décadas de los 50 y 60, la creación artística atravesó una serie de revoluciones teóricas y formales de las que emergieron, entre otros movimientos, el arte conceptual —que pondera la idea y el proceso sobre la factura de la pieza—, la estética industrial y objetiva del minimalismo, la intensidad perceptual del Neoconcretismo, y la crítica institucional —que escudriñó el sentido de los recintos culturales tradicionales—. Como consecuencia de ese enfoque transformador surgió una novedosa manera de producir, exhibir y contemplar la obra: el arte de la instalación.
Definida como una manifestación artística que se vale del espacio físico y simbólico (ver también Lo real, lo imaginario y lo simbólico), la instalación genera un ambiente que pone a las y los espectadores en el centro, como parte esencial de la obra, pero al mismo tiempo los descoloca sensorialmente. Así, en la instalación participan el entorno mental de quien la transita, la resignificación conceptual de los elementos y materiales que la integran, y la carga simbólica del museo o sitio de exhibición.
Apropiación espacial es una muestra que se compone por 34 obras de las colecciones Pago en Especie y Acervo Patrimonial de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP), las cuales, al estar circunscritas en la disciplina de la instalación, expanden sus límites espaciales para introducir al público en una experiencia conceptual inmersiva.
La curaduría reúne el trabajo de veintiún artistas mexicanos y extranjeros que han realizado su carrera en nuestro país, quienes exploran el espacio como construcción material y lugar mental (ver también Filosofía de la mente), con lo que detonan contrastes sensoriales y reflexiones histórico-sociales.
Esto hace de la propuesta museográfica de Apropiación espacial en Casa Chihuahua una configuración y experiencia única e irrepetible, pues la naturaleza conceptual y crítica de las piezas provoca que se transformen de acuerdo con las características del lugar que las aloja, lo cual revela la característica principal de la instalación: el manejo del espacio y su contenido tanto sensorial como simbólico.
La Dirección General de la Conservaduría de Palacio Nacional y Patrimonio Cultural se enorgullece de llevar al público de Casa Chihuahua estas expresiones actuales de la producción artística nacional, que además forman parte de la herencia cultural de todas y todos los mexicanos.
In the turbulent decades of the 50s and 60s, artistic creation went through a series of theoretical and formal revolutions from which emerged, among other movements, conceptual art —which weights the idea and the process over the workmanship of the piece—, the industrial and objective aesthetics of minimalism, the perceptual intensity of Neoconcretism, and institutional criticism —which scrutinized the meaning of traditional cultural venues—. As a consequence of this transformative approach, a new way of producing, exhibiting and contemplating the work emerged: the installation art.
Defined as an artistic manifestation that uses physical and symbolic space (see also The Symbolic) , the installation generates an environment that puts the spectators in the center, as an essential part of the work, but at the same time it displaces them sensorially. Thus, the mental environment of the person passing through it, the conceptual resignification of the elements and materials that make it up, and the symbolic load of the museum or exhibition site participate in the installation.
Spatial Appropriation is an exhibition that is made up of 34 works from the Payment in Kind and Heritage Collections of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), which, being circumscribed in the discipline of installation, expand their spatial limits to introduce the public into an immersive conceptual experience.
The curatorship brings together the work of twenty-one Mexican and foreign artists who have spent their careers in our country, who explore space as a material construction and mental place (see also Philosophy of mind), thereby triggering sensory contrasts and historical-social reflections.
This makes the museographic proposal of Spatial Appropriation at Casa Chihuahua a unique and unrepeatable configuration and experience, since the conceptual and critical nature of the pieces causes them to transform according to the characteristics of the place that houses them, which reveals the main characteristic of the installation: the management of space and its sensory and symbolic content.
The General Directorate of the Conservatorship of the National Palace and Cultural Heritage is proud to bring to the public of Casa Chihuahua these current expressions of national artistic production, which are also part of the cultural heritage of each and every Mexican.
