¿Por qué elegimos este punto?

Este lugar es donde se unen los ríos Sacramento y Chuvíscar, al pie de la Sierra de Nombre de Dios y muy cerca de las Grutas del mismo nombre, lo que representan el agua que llega a la junta de los ríos.

Se trata de un paisaje rocoso espectacular que podría ser un gran atractivo turístico. Sin embargo, el valor del lugar se ve opacado por los malos olores, el color oscuro del agua y la basura que se acumula durante todo el año debido a descargas, falta de mantenimiento y tiraderos clandestinos.

Why did we choose this point?

This place is where the Sacramento and Chuvíscar rivers meet, at the foot of the Sierra de Nombre de Dios and very close to the Grottoes of the same name, which represent the water that reaches the junction of the rivers.

It is a spectacular rocky landscape that could be a great tourist attraction. However, the value of the place is overshadowed by bad odors, the dark color of the water and the garbage that accumulates throughout the year due to discharges, lack of maintenance and clandestine dumping sites.

¿Qué contiene el agua?

El agua en este punto está muy contaminada: las bacterias son altísimas, hay exceso de sólidos, grasas, nutrientes y hasta parásitos. Estos niveles hacen que no sea apta ni para beber ni para actividades recreativas.

What does this water contain?

The water at this point is very contaminated: the bacteria are very high, there are excess solids, greases, nutrients and even parasites. These levels make it not suitable for drinking or recreational activities.

¿Qué se puede observar?

En la zona hay descargas industriales, además de reportes de descargas domésticas clandestinas. Es indispensable que cualquier descarga cumpla la norma NOM-001 y se verifique su conformidad.

También se ve ganado en las orillas, lo que incrementa la contaminación. Todo esto coincide con el olor a drenaje y la mala calidad visual del agua.

What can be observed?

There are industrial discharges in the area, such as that of the COPAMEX paper mill, as well as reports of clandestine domestic discharges. It is essential that any discharge complies with the NOM-001 standard and its compliance is verified.

Cattle are also seen on the banks, which increases pollution. All of this coincides with the smell of drainage and the poor visual quality of the water.

Lo que ocurre aquí no solo impacta en este lugar: también afecta a los ríos aguas abajo, como el Conchos y el Bravo, que son vitales para comunidades y actividades agrícolas.

Reducir las descargas ilegales, controlar el acceso del ganado y atender la acumulación de basura tendría beneficios directos en la salud pública y en la calidad del entorno.

Estas acciones restaurarían el valor turístico de la zona y preservarían un espacio natural que debería ser motivo de orgullo para la ciudad.

What happens here not only impacts this place: it also affects the downstream rivers, such as the Conchos and the Bravo, which are vital for communities and agricultural activities.

Reducing illegal discharges, controlling livestock access and addressing the accumulation of garbage would have direct benefits on public health and the quality of the environment.

These actions would restore the tourist value of the area and preserve a natural space that should be a source of pride for the city.
